Metal-Free Cavity Treatments Are Here!

Metal-Free Cavity Treatments Are Here!

Welcome to the Clearwater Dental Associates blog! We are a full-service dentist’s office serving the Clearwater, Florida area.

Today we’d like to talk about one of our specialties: restorative dentistry.

Restorative Dentistry In Clearwater

This is the realm of dentistry wherein we restore some aspect of your oral health after you have experienced something bad, like a cavity, for instance.

If we detect any cavities or decay in your mouth, we won’t waste any time before we install a simple filling to save your smile and to save your pocketbook from more unpleasant and costly procedures later on.

We only move on to root canals and extractions when it is too late for conservative measures.

Obviously, prevention is always your best bet. But statistics tell us that it, as an American, it is likely to happen to you over the course of your life. Therefore, discovering a cavity early enough to prevent further damage is the next best thing you can do for maintaining your good oral health.

You’ll Be A Fan Of Our Fillings

For untold years, dentists have used a mix of mercury and other metals called amalgam for fillings. The effectiveness of such treatments has never been in question. That said, there have been various complaints about the metal itself, over the decades. And that only makes sense.

For one thing, amalgam is not subtle and so it is a stark contrast against your otherwise pearly whites. What’s more, old-school fillings can actually make your tooth more vulnerable to fracture and cause damage to the nearby healthy tooth structures.

That’s why CDA now uses a newer, safer, and more aesthetically pleasing material for fillings: composite. Composite consists of a blend of resins that lends itself well to the appearance of your natural teeth. Unlike metal, they will look and feel like they actually belong in your mouth.

In addition to being able to fill a cavity very discreetly, composite resin also has superior bonding properties that allow for much more durability.

Don’t worry, getting a tooth-colored filling is easy at our Clearwater practice. We will begin by numbing the area in question. And if you are anxious about the procedure, we have options for relaxing you.

Next, we will clean the cavity by removing the decayed tissue. After the cavity has been cleaned, we will apply the putty-like composite resin material in thin layers. We will shape these layers to match the surface of your tooth.

Finally, We will harden the resin with a high-intensity light and polish it to match the sheen of your natural tooth. That’s all there is to it. Then you’ll get to take your fresh, clean mouth, and your healthy smile home with you.

We’ll make it easy for you, so don’t put of the restorative care you deserve!
