Teeth Whitening or Veneers?
When you look in the mirror, what do you notice about your smile? Is it discolored or stained? A dull smile can make you look years older than you are. It can also make your smile look unhealthy, as though you haven’t been taking good care of your teeth. On top of that, an unattractive smile can make you appear less successful. Who wants to be judged unfairly just because of their smile?
Think about people you know who have beautiful white teeth. Chances are, you can come up with at least a couple of people pretty quickly. If you can’t, go through a list of celebrities in your head, and you’re sure to note several who have gorgeous, white teeth. Do you think their teeth got that way from brushing alone? Not likely. Many people use cosmetic dentistry to enhance the brightness of their smile so that their true beauty can shine through – and shine bright!
Here at Clearwater Dental Associates, our teeth whitening treatment and veneers can give the white smile you’ve always wanted. They can take years off your smile and improve your overall appearance, too! Aren’t sure which option is best for you? Dr. Burton and our Clearwater, FL cosmetic dentists will help you decide!
Do you want a celebrity smile, just like your favorite celebrity? Then veneers may be the best choice for you. These thin, porcelain coverings are cemented directly to the front of your teeth. They look incredibly realistic, and the untrained eye will never know the secret behind your while, perfect smile!
What are the advantages of veneers vs. teeth whitening?
Long-lasting: When you come to our office for veneers, Dr. Burton or one of our other skilled cosmetic dentists will help you determine the shade of your veneers. If you want to whiten your entire smile, we will make your veneers the exact color you desire! With the durable porcelain, your veneers will last a decade or longer!
Stain-resistant: Your veneers will be made from a stain-resistant porcelain, so you can continue drinking coffee and enjoying the other things that may have contributed to your stained teeth.
Versatile: Veneers fix more than stained teeth. These coverings can hide many other flaws, from cracked and chipped teeth to crooked teeth and gaps between teeth. They can even lengthen teeth for a balanced smile. Because your veneers are custom-created for you, you can decide what else you want them to hide. Your smile will be bright and flawless!
What are the disadvantages of veneers vs. teeth whitening?
Invasive: In order for veneers to fit over your teeth without looking bulky or unnatural, we will need to remove a thin layer of your teeth. This is a minimally invasive process at our office, but it may require numbing for your comfort.
Irreversible: Because we have to remove a portion of your teeth and cement veneers on top, it is an irreversible process.
Expensive: Veneers are more expensive than teeth whitening, but they also provide many more benefits to your smile, both cosmetic and restorative.
Time consuming: Veneers can take a while to be fitted for and to create. Here, we try to have your veneers to you no later than two weeks after your initial appointment, after which we will apply them to each tooth. However, you will leave that day with your new smile.
Note: If you have a few teeth that are discolored from decay, you might want to consider dental bonding,http://www.cdadental.com/our-services/cosmetic-bonding/ which can quickly cover up those flaws while keeping the tooth completely intact.
Zoom! Teeth Whitening
Zoom! teeth whitening is one of the most advanced whitening systems available. This means it is incredibly effective at whitening your teeth by several shades and with little time investment. At Clearwater Dental Associates, we use Zoom! Take-Home Teeth Whitening. This allows you to whiten your teeth to the shade you want in your own time.
What are the advantages of Zoom! teeth whitening vs. veneers?
Quick: Zoom! noticeably whitens teeth in just a few days. You’ll even notice a difference after your first treatment! For just a few minutes a day, you can erase the stains from many sources.
Inexpensive: Zoom! at-home whitening is much less expensive than veneers and even less expensive than in-office whitening.
Noninvasive: We do not have to do anything to your teeth before you start your treatments. Zoom! is safe, painless, and does not even destroy your tooth enamel like some over-the-counter whitening products.
What are the disadvantages of teeth whitening vs. veneers?
Not versatile: Teeth whitening is limited to just that – whitening your teeth. If this is the only thing you need to boost your smile, then teeth whitening may be best for you. If you want to fix other cosmetic issues, veneers is your better bet.
Not permanent: One of the reasons we offer Zoom! is that the results last longer than other types of teeth whitening. That said, it will last for several months rather than years. We do offer whitening gel to help maintain your white smile, however.
Not stain-resistant: Teeth whitening removes stains, but it is not stain-resistant. If you regularly consume stain-inducing drinks or use tobacco, the results will not last as long.
