Dental Fear is a Common Concern

Fear of the dentist or dental procedures is a common phobia—around 40 million Americans are afraid of the dentist to some degree. When this dental fear causes you to avoid seeing the dentist, your oral health will suffer. Problems and concerns with your teeth and gums typically will not get better on their own, and the longer treatment is delayed, the more severe the conditions can become. To allow everyone to receive the treatment they deserve, we offer multiple forms of sedation dentistry to reduce anxiety and dental fear.

RELAXING NITROUS OXIDE & ORAL SEDATION OPTIONS

Our most basic levels of sedation include nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is administered via a mask worn by the patient at the time of surgery or treatment. This gas is fast acting and puts the patient in a very relaxed, calming state. Once the gas is removed, the effects can quickly wear off, returning you to normal function. Oral sedation also provides a relaxing effect on patients and is taken as a pill several hours before treatment begins for maximum effect. The sedation will reduce the memory of sights or smells, giving a more pleasing dental experience overall.

IV SEDATION AND LOCAL ANESTHESIA

We also offer local anesthesia and IV sedation for specific cases or intense dental fear. Local anesthesia is injected at the site of treatment and numbs the area to block sensations of pain. It is commonly combined with other forms of sedation to provide both a pain- and anxiety-free experience. For those undergoing more advanced procedures or with extreme fear, we have access to IV sedation, which is administered intravenously. While still conscious, you will have almost no recollection of the procedure, the sights, sounds or smells.

Experience Improved Dental Visits

Most of our patients enjoy an improved dental experience after treatment with sedation. Fears, anxiety and pain are all minimized and dental concerns can be taken care of in a timely and effective manner. Many times, we are able to perform several different treatments during one appointment as you will be so calm and relaxed. Sedation allows you to enjoy the healthy mouth you deserve.
